Heywood…do you have kids? I’m guessing not because if you had you’d realize that if you did this they would be in between you and the wife in bed every night for the next 2 years. Call me selfish, but I wouldn’t do it to my kids because I like to get a good nights sleep snuggled with the hubby every night.
mamamia… You guessed wrong. I have a son. He’s 23 now.
I was scared when I was a kid because I loved horror movies. My parents did check out the movies before me to make sure they weren’t too bad, but when you’re young, they are still scary. I never had to sleep in between mommy and daddy. Why? Because I wasn’t babied. Sure, I may have had a nightmare or two, but I was never babied to the point where I needed mommy and daddy to comfort me.
People are just WAY too overprotective of children these days and baby them to no end. A kid falls down, skins his knee, and parents rush the kid to a doctor, sue someone or hold the child until the crying stops. Give me a break… When I was a kid and I fell down and skinned my knee, my mom just sprayed it with Bactine and slapped a Band-Aid on it, then told me that I’ll live and I should go back outside and play. Guess what? I stopped crying in the matter of minutes.
LOL Heywood….sounds like you and I grew up the same way…lots of bactine, iodine and no tears. I’m a former farm girl so we had to get back to work without protest after an injury. My kids aren’t babied by any means, my 9 year old GIRL can take on any boy in judo and win (she has lots of medals to prove it) and can take the kick of a 12 guage without even wincing. My 5 year old son ran around (no tears) with a broken collar bone for weeks before reinjuring it and sending himself to the ER. BUT physical pain and emotional pain are 2 different things. Fear can be very real to little children and to ignore it can exacerbate a “little” fear until it becomes crippling.
I was a little wuss like that when I was a kid until I was shown that I didn’t need to cry about every little thing. My folks did stuff to me like that and I screamed for a sec and laughed later. I love my folks to death for that. It was all in fun. Being scared is fun to most, especially when you know there’s no real danger. He’s in front of a computer screen for goodness sakes.
