Wow…it’s sad what the world is coming too. He’s trying to sue or something for virtual crops because he didn’t have a secure enough password to prevent getting hacked. There is no hope for future generations.
Either this guy works for the paper or this is the lamest town in the world for even mentioning this dribbledipoop. Who gives a flip? Why wouldn’t the magistrate just laugh this guy out of town? What is he looking to collect? Farmville dollars?
Was he trying to sue someone such as Facebook, an internet service provider or trying to get the police to do something about the hacker?
It’s a bit lame if he is trying to get third parties but good on him if he can win against the hacker.
We might think it is lame as it was just a game he was playing, but we all have hobbies.
Would we be happy if we spent months producing a painting if someone came up and sprayed grafiti all over it, perhaps we had restored an old car and some idiot stole it and trashed it just for the fun of it or if someone turned the sprinklers on over night so that your teams next match was cancelled due to the field being water logged?
We would hope that the police would do something about it, even if it was to just give the offenders a big foot up the back side.
Some hackers are in it just for a bit of fun and don’t cause any real harm but a lot are just selfish *%^ You can fill in the words here*#& who either steal honest peoples money instead of getting a real job and actually earning their own or quite often destroy the work of people who volunteer their time to help others by providing sites for various sporting clubs and other community organisations or lots of the other sites many of us enjoy having a look at.
Perhaps it is time that a bit more was reported about the activities of the ratbag element of the hackers community and then perhaps the police and courts might take a bit more serious view of them before to many other people are caught out by them.
Just something to think about.
Darryl, all of those are hobbies take skills, require walking outside of your house to buy supplies and SOCIALISING. This guy was playing Farmville. To waste the county’s justice system, and tax payers money to put up with the guy, all over a game is just ridiculous. A joke. A very childish joke.
All the reasons you listed that we should care about an injustice done, we should care about. But Farmville ? Really ?!
We had alot of police reports like that in college. But it usually went like “Student called police after smelling marijuana in Long hall. Upon investigation no weed fond.”
I went to a REALLY safe collage.
WOOOOOOOOW! im sorry but theres just no way to play the devils advocate on this one. i mean seriously. Its not like he put money or hard labor into it. just sat on his ass all day planting virtual corn or whatever the hell it is u do on there!!! this is definately hilarious!
Loser or not… A lot of people spend money on things in Farmville. If someone damaged his account, they have cost him things he has paid for. And the person who hacked into his account should be held accountable, at least for the money lost. Stealing is stealing. What if being held accountable was based on whether or not other people cared about your belongings, such as a collection of dolphin figurines or even all your computer files of the poetry you’ve worked on for a year? Isn’t it still wrong even if someone else thinks its not worth anything?
Hey guys, speaking of games and how people freak out over it, don’t you remember way back when some asian hacked another asians Everquest account and stole his best item that took months to get? The guy found his IP address, tracked it and went to his house and stabbed the guy to death.
I will confess that I *used* to be a Farmville junkie — I’m level 97 right now and there’s just nothing else to do — ok there, I admitted it — now as far as him partaking in litigation — BIG waste of time — but IF you had receipts of Zynga cards or payments made for Farmville cash — it’s a legitimate lawsuit — don’t be surprised if you see similar cases like this in the future because it is “so new”.
Personally — it’s all dumb — I can’t believe I wasted THAT much time on something that is … well … virtual. Haven’t played in 3 weeks and don’t plan on it either — I suppose if I was unemployed and had a SHITLOAD of time to play — I would — but I’m done and the guy needs a better password or uncheck the “remember me” button
