@Ugnaught before trying to be a smart-ass about it, think about it a little.
Although the term isn’t immediately racist, it can be considered racist by a lot of people. Especially since the term, “cotton picker” in some areas is common slang for a racist slur. Since the term was used so often during slavery times to refer to slaves it carried on in some places as a racist slur for African-Americans and is still sometimes used, so I’d say yeah, it is racist, and a horrible name for a team, especially for a team that (from the looks of the picture) is predominantly African-American
Well if it was the Spear Chuckers or the Porch Monkeys then it would be racist – cotton pickers don’t necessarily have to refer to only blacks, other nationalities have picked cotton too. Remember – before you get all bent out of shape over stuff that happened hundreds of years ago – just remember that it was their own people who sold them into slavery.
Do any of you really think that this team name came about because of white folks? No, this is the brainchild of ‘progressive’ black administrators who want to make sure they get and keep people thinking about, well everything, in terms of race alone.
